Math homework this week

March 19, 2012 Dear Parents and Guardians, The quest to make my students better Math multiplication students continues this week.   The students are telling me that they have really enjoyed playing the Math games that I have been sending home.   Special thanks to all the Nans and Pops who helped the students learn their facts.   I have tried to reiterate with the students that it is important to commit their facts to memory.   This week I am sending home some good practice.   The students have learned to solve problems the traditional way (i.e. the way you would have done it in school) so this is the method I would like them to try to perfect this week. The curriculum outcome for Grade 5 states that the students should be able to multiply two digit by two digit numbers.   Your child has 4 sheets to complete this week.   One page should be completed each night as it is better to work 15-20 minutes each night rather than complete all the work in one nigh...

Upcoming Presentations

We've got a few presentations over the next several weeks.  Here is a list of the presentations you will hear over the next couple of weeks: Joey's mom will be here to talk about French Culture tomorrow Luke's dad, Dr. Batten, will come to present to all the Grade 5 students on Dental Health. Grace's mom is going to present to the Grade 5 English classes on the respiratory system. We are also going to hear a presentation at MQP Church about Christian beliefs. As you can see we will be pretty busy.

Climate Change Presentation

Today the students heard a presentation about climate change and how they are responsible to help save our planet.  Each child received a book and magnet from the Conservation Corps.  It was a very informative presentation.  My class just finished creating an acid rain poster so the timing of this presentation was perfect!

Finding Math products the traditional way

We are currently working on multiplying one digit by two digit numbers as well as two digit by two digit numbers.  I am showing the students how to multiply in the traditional way (the way parents would have learned when they were in school).  You will see some review sheets coming home next week on multiplication.
