The key problems to review in this chapter are:

·         Practice Page 193 (all numbers except #8)

·         #8 p. 205
·         #5 p. 207
Remember to spend some time reviewing your facts.  The 6’s, 7’s and 8’s can be quite tricky.
Use your duo-tang to review some of the key concepts.  We did not complete all of the worksheets for this chapter since we focused on learning how to multiply with Math games.  Make sure you bring home your duo-tang.  Feel free to work on any of the pages from Chapter 6 at home if you need any extra practice sheets.
You should also make sure that you know how to multiply 2 digit by 2 digit numbers the traditional way (old fashioned way).  Your parents and guardians can easily help you with multiplying in the traditional way because this is how they learned when they were in school.  Spend some time working on solving Math problems in the traditional way before the test.  Review the Math quiz in your duo-tang too.
Finally, if you really want more practice you can visit my website and browse the Math links for Chapter 6.  Each lesson has a supplementary quiz.

Do not leave all your preparation until the last minute.  Stay on top of the work.  Do a little bit each night and you will be successful!  Oh, and let your parents help you!!!

St. John's Recycling

Well today history was made for many people in the East End of St. John's.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the blue bags of recycling on my street this morning!  At Mary Queen of Peace we recycle on a regular basis.  We recycle juice containers and our paper.  As a teacher I am trying to do my part by double siding my photocopying more regularly.  I also like to remind my students to use up all the space in their exercise books before they begin a new page.  Part of our Health program this year involves learning about the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).  If you have a chance please talk to your child about the importance of recycling.  It is their planet and they are our future!  Have a look at the photo of my recycling below. French quiz and notes

From now on I will be posting notes that I give my class under the NOTES section of this blog.  If you click on NOTES you will see this message. September 24, 2013 Dear Students, Parents and Guardians, On __________________ , 2013 the Grade 5 students will be having a French quiz on their colours and numbers to 30. To prepare for this quiz the students should know their basic colours in French.   They will be asked to color some small pictures.   Each picture will be labeled with a color.   Here is a list of the colors that the students should know:   rouge-red, bleu-blue, jaune-yellow, brun-brown, blanc-white, noir-black, violet-purple, vert-green, orange-orange. Our Plays

Today we officially unveiled our plays to some wonderful audiences.  We began our day by presenting to Ms. White's class as well as Ms. Harris, Mme. Collett and Ms. Cleary.  The students also performed for their Kindergarten buddy readers and this afternoon they will perform once more for Mr. Yetman's class. Tomorrow I will be videotaping the students as they present their plays.  I plan on creating two cd's so that one boy and one girl can take home the video each night.  It should take about ten school nights before everyone at home sees the great work!  I am sure all parents are excited to see how the plays turned out. Many thanks to the parents who sent in props for our play.  A big thank you to all the parents who ran lines with their child in preparation for today's performance.
