French Quiz note going home tomorrow
October 15, 2012
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Next Tuesday,
October 23, 2012 your child will have a French quiz based on the work that
we have completed to date. This quiz
will be all matching. We will focus on
some listening comprehension activities in class at a later date.
For the purposes of this quiz your child should study the
classroom French expressions sheet with the English equivalents in their
duo-tang. They should also study the
page of objects in the classroom.
Finally, we have spent the last several classes working on identifying
French place names in Newfoundland. Each
child has a sheet in their duo-tang with the French place name as well as the
rough English translation. As stated
above, the students will need to match items.
They will be asked to match classroom objects to the appropriate word,
French expressions to English and French Place names to English place
names. The objects in the classroom part
of the quiz as well as the common French expressions will be evaluated as part
of your child's French comprehension grade.
The French place names will be graded as a French culture mark. You will also see two other items in your
child's duo-tang which have already been evaluated for French culture, a
Newfoundland Labrador French place names wordsearch as well as the Newfoundland
and Labrador Francophone flag.
In the weeks to come we will be working on a new unit of
study Vive L'amitiƩ! The theme of the unit is Friendship. Your child will learn how to describe a class
friend in French in terms of physical characteristics, personality traits,
favourite colours and pastimes.
As part of this current unit I am asking each child to
bring 4 photos of their friends to
school. A friend could be a neighbour,
sibling, family pet, penpal, cousin or teammate. The photo does not need to be on actual photo
paper, a printed copy is fine. For the
purposes of this work 4x6 photos work best.
I would like the students to have the photos in school by Friday, October 26, 2012 so that we can begin our French photo
albums. All photos will be returned to
the student and we will use scotch tape to attach the pictures.
Thank you for your continued help and support,
Deanne Burton Snow
