We had a great airplane competition for Science a few weeks ago. Provincial Airline tuques were awarded to the winners. We tested distance and length of time in the air.
From now on I will be posting notes that I give my class under the NOTES section of this blog. If you click on NOTES you will see this message. September 24, 2013 Dear Students, Parents and Guardians, On __________________ , 2013 the Grade 5 students will be having a French quiz on their colours and numbers to 30. To prepare for this quiz the students should know their basic colours in French. They will be asked to color some small pictures. Each picture will be labeled with a color. Well today history was made for many people in the East End of St. John's. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the blue bags of recycling on my street this morning! At Mary Queen of Peace we recycle on a regular basis. We recycle juice containers and our paper. As a teacher I am trying to do my part by double siding my photocopying more regularly. I also like to remind my students to use up all the space in their exercise books before they begin a new page. Part of our Health program this year involves learning about the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). If you have a chance please talk to your child about the importance of recycling. It is their planet and they are our future! Have a look at the photo of my recycling below. As for what was happening in our class today... the friendly letters were continued. Many thanks to the parents who have already supplied mailing addresses. Math today was a little rough....
Today we had our Remembrance Day assembly. It was a very interesting assembly hosted by the Grade 6 students and their teachers. I read the students a book about Remembrance Day a few days ago and many have shared stories of relatives who have served in past wars or are currently serving as peacekeepers. On another note, my French video is up and running.... one parent (with very keen listening skills... I'm sure he'll like that remark) has let me know that I seem to ask the same question twice. I can't view the video at my house, for some reason my computer shuts down every time I try to open it (but that's another story) so I'll have to take his word for it. Here is how your child should respond to the question What day is it? Quelle est la date aujourd'hui? C'est le (whatever the date of the month is) novembre, 2010. The other question is supposed to be C'est quel jour? Then they can respond with... C'est lundi. (It's...
