Please help

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you are all aware the students in my class are currently working on two plays.  Each child has been assigned at least one role.  The students selected their own roles in class based on interest.

We are going to present our play to Ms. White’s class as well as to several other Elementary classes on Friday, February 25, 2011.  Many students already have their lines memorized, but there are others who need to continue to review the play at home each night.  We practice each play in school 2-3 times per week.

I am also looking for some props and am wondering if you can have a good look around your house to see if there might be a treasure that we could borrow.  Here is a list of the items that we need:

  • a blue suit (it doesn’t matter if it is a little big)  An old blue blazer would work out nicely.
  • a yellow or gold colored vest
  • a red blazer
  • a hat that we could poke a feather in
  • a dummy head (I was thinking about one of those large Barbie heads that little girls sometimes enjoy.)
  • we need to make some palm trees so if you have any sizeable tubes (like empty wrapping paper tubes) that would be appreciated
  • a green hat (elf-like if at all possible)
  • a hair dryer that you don’t need for a couple of weeks (it does not have to be a working hairdryer so a toy one would work nicely)
  • an old blue blanket that you do not mind being spread on the floor

I know it is difficult for some students to learn lines, especially when they have a big part, but I would like them to try their best.  They have two weeks to practice before the big day.

Hoping you can help with the props and the preparation work.  I am going to attempt to videotape the students so that you can see the final production.  I would like to send the video home with a different student each night as I am not allowed to put it on my blog.

St. John's Recycling

Well today history was made for many people in the East End of St. John's.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the blue bags of recycling on my street this morning!  At Mary Queen of Peace we recycle on a regular basis.  We recycle juice containers and our paper.  As a teacher I am trying to do my part by double siding my photocopying more regularly.  I also like to remind my students to use up all the space in their exercise books before they begin a new page.  Part of our Health program this year involves learning about the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).  If you have a chance please talk to your child about the importance of recycling.  It is their planet and they are our future!  Have a look at the photo of my recycling below. French quiz and notes

From now on I will be posting notes that I give my class under the NOTES section of this blog.  If you click on NOTES you will see this message. September 24, 2013 Dear Students, Parents and Guardians, On __________________ , 2013 the Grade 5 students will be having a French quiz on their colours and numbers to 30. To prepare for this quiz the students should know their basic colours in French.   They will be asked to color some small pictures.   Each picture will be labeled with a color.   Here is a list of the colors that the students should know:   rouge-red, bleu-blue, jaune-yellow, brun-brown, blanc-white, noir-black, violet-purple, vert-green, orange-orange. Our Plays

Today we officially unveiled our plays to some wonderful audiences.  We began our day by presenting to Ms. White's class as well as Ms. Harris, Mme. Collett and Ms. Cleary.  The students also performed for their Kindergarten buddy readers and this afternoon they will perform once more for Mr. Yetman's class. Tomorrow I will be videotaping the students as they present their plays.  I plan on creating two cd's so that one boy and one girl can take home the video each night.  It should take about ten school nights before everyone at home sees the great work!  I am sure all parents are excited to see how the plays turned out. Many thanks to the parents who sent in props for our play.  A big thank you to all the parents who ran lines with their child in preparation for today's performance.
