2 Field trip notes sent home today

Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Friday, December 14, 2012 the Grade 5 English classes will be going to Mary Queen of Peace Church to learn about Christian symbols.  We will listen to a short presentation from Ms. Ann Walsh who will give an explanation of several symbols and colors.  In particular, she will focus on explaining the meaning of the advent wreath and the nativity scene.  This field trip will take place during the afternoon session.
Our visit to Mary Queen of Peace Church will help us to meet Outcome 1.2 of our Religious Education program which asks us to help the students to develop an understanding of Christian signs and symbols.
Please sign the bottom portion of this note and have your child return it to his/her teacher as soon as possible.  There is no cost for this field trip as we will be walking to the church.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday, December 19, 2012 the Grade 5 English classes will be going on a field trip to the Hindu Temple in St. John’s.  The cost of this field trip is $3.00 which will cover the cost of the bus.
During this field trip we will meet a number of our Religion outcomes including:
·         1.2 Develop an understanding of signs and symbols (related to Hinduism)
·         1.4 Discover how religious beliefs are often expressed through the architecture of places of worship such as temples.
·         2.2 Describe the basic beliefs of Hinduism
·         6.3 Explore Hindu teachings regarding stewardship and the environment
Please sign the permission form below and return it your child’s teacher as soon as possible.

St. John's Recycling

Well today history was made for many people in the East End of St. John's.  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the blue bags of recycling on my street this morning!  At Mary Queen of Peace we recycle on a regular basis.  We recycle juice containers and our paper.  As a teacher I am trying to do my part by double siding my photocopying more regularly.  I also like to remind my students to use up all the space in their exercise books before they begin a new page.  Part of our Health program this year involves learning about the 3 R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).  If you have a chance please talk to your child about the importance of recycling.  It is their planet and they are our future!  Have a look at the photo of my recycling below. French quiz and notes

From now on I will be posting notes that I give my class under the NOTES section of this blog.  If you click on NOTES you will see this message. September 24, 2013 Dear Students, Parents and Guardians, On __________________ , 2013 the Grade 5 students will be having a French quiz on their colours and numbers to 30. To prepare for this quiz the students should know their basic colours in French.   They will be asked to color some small pictures.   Each picture will be labeled with a color.   Here is a list of the colors that the students should know:   rouge-red, bleu-blue, jaune-yellow, brun-brown, blanc-white, noir-black, violet-purple, vert-green, orange-orange. Our Plays

Today we officially unveiled our plays to some wonderful audiences.  We began our day by presenting to Ms. White's class as well as Ms. Harris, Mme. Collett and Ms. Cleary.  The students also performed for their Kindergarten buddy readers and this afternoon they will perform once more for Mr. Yetman's class. Tomorrow I will be videotaping the students as they present their plays.  I plan on creating two cd's so that one boy and one girl can take home the video each night.  It should take about ten school nights before everyone at home sees the great work!  I am sure all parents are excited to see how the plays turned out. Many thanks to the parents who sent in props for our play.  A big thank you to all the parents who ran lines with their child in preparation for today's performance.
